Europe’s Agro Superpower: Ukraine, Powered by Tech and Innovation
A lack of foreign direct investment coupled with ideological pressure prevented the growth of the largest agricultural sector in Europe. But the old rural economy in Ukraine is now being replaced by a modern and technologically-focused agribusiness. Our discussion includes how Agritech is changing global trends in farming and the food market, with success stories from Ukraine and other countries. Who is included in the new ecosystem of Ukrainian agricultural investment? How are “innovative economy values” embodied in the 2017-2018 farming practice? What are the opportunities and risks for world investors and innovators? Are local agro holdings open as fields for new technologies?

Where Is The Next Сryptohaven?
Many states are suspicious of cryptocurrencies for multiple reasons, primarily because they cannot fully control them. Therefore, the state which stands first to create a completely favourable legal environment for the development of cryptocurrencies will drive huge investment flows into its economy. How do we make cryptocurrencies more friendly to authorities without undermining their main advantages? What can the cryptocurrency community offer to governments in order to minimize the use of cryptocurrencies in illegal activities?

Emerging Global Tech Hubs
Given the Fourth Industrial Revolution and rapid technological development, the world is experiencing a scarcity of tech-savvy talent, creativity, and non-trivial approaches. Kyiv has already earned Ukraine the status of the biggest IT outsourcing market in Central and Eastern Europe and is now emerging as a global tech hub. In this context, UNIT.City, Ukraine’s first 25-hectare innovation park – tech ‘city in a city’ – is developing a robust ecosystem and opening the Ukrainian tech scene to global corporations, accelerators, and investment. This discussion panel will gather representatives from leading tech companies as well as municipal policymakers, to talk about Kyiv’s potential and to reveal advantages of setting operations in Ukraine. The following questions will also be addressed: How does technology change cities? What are role models and best practices? How do international tech companies contribute to the digital transformation of cities?

Data Science: Ensuring Human Power Over Data
Along with global digital transformation, Data Science is taking root in different sectors, transforming business, politics and society. Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and AR/VR trigger revolutionary developments in such vital areas as healthcare, food production, automotive, finance and many others. Will there be a clash of AI and humans? How do these changes impact the requirements for tech talent and expertise? How do we ensure that businesses and governments have enough professional human capacity to deal with the data? Ukraine possesses a solid mathematical background – a necessary ingredient for AI and Machine Learning expertise. Meanwhile, over the past 26 years, Ukraine’s critical thinking and creativity capabilities have exploded exponentially, spurred by a young globalized generation. All this, combined with a proven technology partnership to world leaders in different segments, positions Ukraine to emerge as the next Data Science lab.

The Emerging Blockchain Network: How Will It Shape And Secure The Future Finance Architecture?

What possible models of taxation using the blockchain technology could be proposed as alternatives to traditional mechanisms? How does the current financial infrastructure (banking systems) plan to compete with the crypto finance ecosystem? Would traditional financial institutions offer new forms of partnership? Good government trade policy is essential for stimulating and promoting international trade. Ukraine has made tremendous gains in expanding its trade relationships, across borders, continents and oceans. The DCFTA with the European Union marked a turning point in Ukraine shifting its trade to a westward trajectory, immediately followed by the historic signing and launch of the Canada Ukraine Free Trade Agreement to great fanfare from both sides. You will hear an insider’s perspective from Canada’s Chief Trade Commissioner on CUFTA and its benefits to both parties and the trade and investment opportunities that these policies have facilitated from the leadership of UkraineInvest and the National Investment Council of Ukraine. Finally, the perspective from an IT company with Ukraine roots going global will round out this event.

Leaders from CleanTech, BioTech, large Holding Companies and the UN will discuss how the theme of WEF 2018 “Creating a shared future in a fractured world” can be met if we develop models for cooperation that are not based on narrow interests but on the destiny of humanity as a whole. Furthermore, we will ask how responsible public-private collaboration can realize digital technology’s potential to benefit humankind.
